Whites In Search Of Third Boss This Season

Lincoln United are in the market for a new manager following the resignation of Billy Heath last night.

United currently compete in the Northern Premier League East Division and find themselves in the relegation places, two points from safety, having played two more matches than Newton Aycliffe, who are directly above them.

Non League Pedigree

Heath was appointed on November 28th, following the surprise sacking of promotion-winning manager Scott Hellewell.

Upon his appointment, the Whites had 20 points from 19 games and sat fifth bottom of the division. However, the club were clearly looking up, posting on X that Heath was taking over a side just nine points off the playoffs.

The former North Ferriby boss came with a good non-league pedigree, having won promotion to the National League with The Villagers and Halifax Town, as well as claiming FA Trophy success at Wembley with Ferriby.

His last job was a seven-year spell with Alfreton Town in the National League North, becoming the club’s longest-ever serving manager in the process.

An Unhappy Spell

After seven years with Alfreton, Heath has managed just 32 days in charge of the Whites, picking up just one point from four league outings.

A home draw with Bradford Park Avenue in Heath’s first match was followed by defeats to Matlock Town, Grimsby Borough and North Ferriby.

Those results have left United two points from safety and led to Heath’s resignation, leaving the club on the hunt for their third permanent manager of the season.

The club made a brief statement announcing the news.

“It is with regret that the Board have today accepted the resignation of manager, Billy Heath.”

“The Board can confirm that Director of Football, Dave Frecklington, will be responsible for preparing the playing squad for our important New Year’s Day fixture with Hallam FC.”

What Now For United?

The most important thing over the next few days is that the club pick up vital points, starting with the trip to Yorkshire on Thursday.

After that, the board have a huge decision and must get the appointment right.

Fans have called for a Scott Hellewell return, but you’d imagine too much water has passed under that bridge. Although division rivals Matlock have made an even quicker U-turn, so who knows!
